The JBT test was conducted based on the following format:

There shall be one question paper having questions of multiple-choice/objective type, carrying 100 questions of one mark each to be attempted within 120 minutes.

The subjects along with the distribution of marks shall be as under:

ii) English - Marks - 25
iii) Numerical Ability - Marks - 25
iv) General Awareness - Marks - 25

Grand Total: 100

With so much of demand for rail tickets during this fesitval season of Diwali standing in the queue for long hours is no more required - you can just book everything online and the performance of the site irctc.co.in is fairly good

General Information on MTNL Job Openings


a. A candidate can apply for only one post.

b. The courses offered by Autonomous Institutions should be equivalent to the relevant courses approved / recognized by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) / UGC / AICTE.

c. Wherever CGPA/ OGPA or letter grade is awarded, equivalent percentage of marks should be indicated in the application as per the norms adopted by the University / Institute.

d. Other things remaining the same, preference shall be given to candidates possessing higher and / or additional qualification in the line as well as post-qualification experience beyond the minimum eligibility requirements of qualification/experience.

e. Candidates employed in Government / Semi Government Departments/ PSUs / Autonomous Bodies shall be required to produce NOC at the time of interview if their application has not been forwarded through Proper Channel.

f. Candidates appearing in the final year of qualifying examination and awaiting results are not eligible.

g. The list of proposed Examination Centres is tentative and shall depend upon the response received from that area. MTNL reserves the right to alter / cancel / add any Centre depending on the response from candidates. However, no request for change of Examination Centre shall be entertained for any reason under any circumstances.

h. Application forms should only be accompanied with Demand Draft, Caste / PH certificate as applicable and no other enclosures.

i. Demand Drafts payable at locations other than Delhi/ New Delhi will not be accepted. Money Order/Pay Order/Cheque/Cash or any other mode of payment shall not be accepted.

j. MTNL shall not be responsible for any postal delay or loss in transit. No request in this regard will be entertained.

k. Candidates are advised to retain a photocopy of their Application and Demand Draft for future reference.

l. Candidates shall be required to appear in the Written Test at their own expenses. No Traveling Expenses will be paid for the purpose.

m. Short-listed candidates called for Interview shall be reimbursed to and fro travel expenses limited to 2nd Class (Sleeper Class) Rail fare or actuals, whichever is less, by shortest route, from their native place or place of residence or place from where actually traveled, on production of proof of journey. Candidates are advised, in their own interest, to retain the ticket or photocopy of the ticket for claiming reimbursement of travel expenses.

n. The Court of jurisdiction for any dispute in this regard shall be at Delhi.

o. Any attempt to influence the Company in any manner would result in disqualification and rejection of candidature.

How this Sixth Pay Commission change your take home salary and the taxes that you pay - read below


1.Full pension only after 20 years: You are entitled to full pension after completing 20 years of service. This offer is really attractive to those government employees who joined at an early age and now want to enter the private sector. Pension will act as a cushion after they give up the secure government job. The government has tried to attract young talent by incorporating this flexibility.

2.Gratuity limit enhanced: Gratuity cap has been raised to Rs 10.00 lakhs from the present Rs 3.5 lakhs – a cool jump of approximately 300 percent! Of course gratuity is a function of the service put in by the employee and the last salary drawn. But it will provide adequate relief to employees retiring in the near future in the context of the scorching inflation of over 12 percent ruling for sometime now. They can invest this lump sum in any bank and generate over 10 percent by way of interest. It is a double bonanza for those on the verge of becoming senior citizens.

3. Enhanced pension cap and floor limit: Government has raised the minimum pension of its employees from Rs 2,813/- to Rs 4,060/-. The upper ceiling has been raised to Rs 52,200/- from Rs 33,075/- at present. So the cap has been raised by a whopping 58 percent while the floor (minimum) has been raised by an impressive 44 percent. So employees in the higher salary bracket will benefit more when they retire.

4. Live long and enjoy more: A new and unique dimension has been added to the new pension scheme. If you remain healthy post-retirement and hence live longer, your pension will increase proportionately. So once you turn 80, your pension will rise by 20 percent; similarly if you turn 85, your pension will rise by 30 percent; each additional five years there from will entitle you to a rise of over 10 percent.

5. Arrears will not be taxed in the same year: Some confusion prevails with regard to computation of income tax in respect of arrears. Arrears would be released in two installments of 40 percent and 60 percent in two financial years, viz., 2008-09 and 2009-10. Earlier it was reported that even though the arrears would be released in two installments, the employee should reckon the arrears fully as income in financial year 2008-09. It spoiled the employees’ party since most of the first installment of arrears released would have been gobbled up by the taxman this year. But the Finance Minister has reportedly clarified that only the arrears released this year, viz., 40 percent will be taxed.

6. Benefits enhanced if employees dies while on duty: Ex gratia paid to the family of an employee killed in terrorist attacks or attacks by anti-social elements has been enhanced to Rs 10.00 lakhs. The family will be paid Rs 15.00 lakhs by way of ex-gratia if the employee dies fighting a war or battling militants or working at high altitudes characterized by hostile weather.

Big Bang Experiment Creates Excitement and Fear - Large Hadron Collider Project

These days the Big Bang Experiment being conducted by Scientists - CERN - is creating a lot of excitement and at the same time some fear among people. The experiment is to be conducted on the 10th of SEP 2008 and there is some online activity around this about the world coming to an end etc etc.

As much as there is this excitement and fear, I personally don't agree with the discussions around the Big Bang experiment and the world coming to an end. Its more like rumors than anything in my opinion.

As you all the recent tests by nuclear scientists have cleared the way for conducting the Big Bang Experiment. The main purpose and interest of scientific world in this ALICE experiment is to look, analyze and understand at how the universe was formed by particle collisions.

This Big Bang experiment will be conducted in the Deep underground on the border between France and Switzerland, the world's largest particle accelerator complex will explore the world on smaller scales than any other scientific experiment or human invention has explored before.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) Project part of the Big Bang Experiment will look at how the universe was formed. They tend to get some information and data by analyzing the particle collisions during the course of this experiment. Some people and bloggers have expressed fears that the project could lead to the Earth's demise and the world will come to an end, but this is being denied by the scientists and they are confident that this will not happen. Still, people who are skeptical on this and who are worried have filed suit to try to stop the Big Bang Experiment and the Large Hadron Collider project.It even has a rap dedicated to it on You Tube. Lot of blogs, forums and You Tube activity is happening around this Large Hadron Collider - Big Bang Theory experiment.

Some people are arguing that this experiment will create a black hole which will swallow the planet.The whole experiment has till date cost £4.4billion and is designed to unlock the secrets of the Big Bang theory.

India US Civil Nuclear Deal done

India US Civil Nuclear Deal done

India may get a chance to join the Nuclear Club as one of the main hurdles of this process is cleared today. The Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) has given its nod to the India specific waiver. This news came in after few rounds of hectic convincing, diplomatic activities between India, USA and the 45 Nation Nuclear Supplier Group. This convention was being held in Vienna, Austria.

Few nations like Ireland, Austria and New Zealand did have an opposition to the Indo-US Nuclear deal.

Now this approval means that the US Plan to engage India with the Nuclear Deal may go ahead after the required legislation etc in the US Senate. This also means that the 34-year old Nuclear apartheid is ended for India. The focus of the NSG meet was to ensure that the Non-Proliferation treaty, for which India is not a signatory, is not compromised.

More news on this Indo-US Civilian Nuclear Deal is awaited.

Sixth Pay commission Children Education Allowance

Now that the Sixth Pay Commission notifications are out, the discussions are moving on to the next stage of getting into the details of the 6th Pay commission Gazette Notification and the impact on individuals net pay and the additional tax liability.

There are many places which are giving the details on the 6th Pay Commission new salary calculator and the other new payment details like arrears and dearness allowances.

There is one good news related to the children educational allowance as per the new pay commission report. Here are some of the salient features of the Children Education Allowance Scheme. Government orders have been issued on the enhancement of Children Education Allowance.

Children Education Allowance and Reimbursement of Tuition fees have been merged and the new scheme is known as Children Education Allowance Scheme.

This scheme can be availed by Government employees upto a maximum of Two Children

This is applicable for school going children only (nursery to 12th Std including 11th and 12th std conducted by Junior colleges

The Scheme has no nexus with the performance of the children in the class.

The reimbursement is applicable for admission fees, laboratory fees, special fee charged for agriculture, music, electronics or any subject, fee charged for practical work, fees for use of any aid or appliance by the child, library fees, games/sports fees, fees for extra curricular activities, purchase of one set of text books and notebooks, two sets of uniforms and one set of school shoes.

The annual ceiling for reimbursement of children education allowance is fixed at Rs.12,000/-.

Hostel subsidy will be reimbursed upto maximum limit of Rs.3000/- per month per child. However, both hostel subsidy, and children education allowance can not be availed concurrently.

The maximum limits in Children Education allowance and Hostel subsidy would be automatically raised by 25% every time the dearness allowance on the revise pay structure goes up by 50%.

This scheme is effective from 01-09-08.

Reimbursement of the children education allowance and Hostel subsidy would be made on production of original receipts self certified by the employee.

Leander Paes wins 2008 US Open Mixed Doubles Grand Slam Tennis Championship



India's Leander Paes won the 2008 mixed doubles tennis championship along with Zimbabwe's Cara Black. They defeated Britain's Jamie Murray and American Liezel Huber 7-6 (8/6), 6-4 in the US Open finals.

Earlier in his career Leander Paes won the mixed doubles tennis championships at the 1999 French Open and Wimbledon with American Lisa Raymond and the 2003 Wimbledon and Australian Opens with US star Martina Navratilova.

He was also the runner up at two prior US Open mixed finals, including last year.

Leander Paes never won the Australian Grand Slam mixed doubles, even though he was a finalist in 2001.He has the chance of winning one more title at this year US Open in the Men's doubles too. Paes and Czech Lukas Dlouhy have advanced to Friday's US Open men's doubles final, where they will face US brothers Mike and Bob Bryan.

As students we all have a lot of influence on us by our Teachers and there is no doubt in the fact that they are the one who put us in the right path. It is so important that in which ever position that we are in today - we should spend some time and remember all those teachers who shaped our careers.

Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan is also India’s first vice president and second president, he was also given the highest civilian award of the country - Bharat Ratna - so he is referred as Bharat Ratna Sir Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was born in 1888 and passed away in 1975, Sir Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan got the Bharat Ratna Award in 1954

Radhakrishnan was also a famous scholar and philosopher and the introduction of western philosophy into Indian schools of thought is attributed to him. He is the most prominent philosopher of past century who took the Indian philosophy to the global level. He represented India in the (Calcutta University) at the International Congress of Philosophy.

When his students and friends wanted to celebrate his birthday as a celebrity’s birthday, Sir Radhakrishnan requested the students not to celebrate it as an individual’s glory, but instead celebrate it as a day of celebration for all the teachers of the country. Since then, September 5 every year is celebrated as the Teacher’s day in India.

So on this important occasion of Teachers Day - join me in sending teachers day greetings and messages to all the teachers.

About the festival
23rd August 2009 is the Ganesh Chaturthi festival this year, which is one of the most popular Hindu festivals. Every year this comes on the 4th day of the lunar calendar 'Bhadrapada' - Shukla paksha, first fortnight. This festival is celebrated by different names throughout India and all over the world by devoted Hindus - Ganesh Chaturthi, Ganesha Puja, Vinayaka Chavithi Pooja, Vinayaka Chaturthi, Ganapathy Chavithi, Ganapathy chaturthi, Gowri-Ganesh pooja (in south).

In the Indian state of Maharashtra, it is most important festival and is celebrated for 10 days. In Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, images of Ganesh made of unbaked clay are worshiped on this day in every house. A special sweet called Modak is prepared on this occasion. To mark the end of the festivities, the clay idols are immersed in water at the end of 5th, 7th or 10th day.

This is festival is also very important to students - as Ganesha is the god who gives good education and good results to students - in some places students also keep their books and stationary at the pooja mandap while performing pooja to the Lord Ganesha.

Khairatabad Ganesh is generally known to be the tallest among the Ganesh idols of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. This year - 2008, the mammoth Khairatabad Ganesh will appear seated on a throne, after 25 years (this Gaensh was last seen in a seated posture in 1982).

According to the Ganesh Utsav Samithi, the idol is being made on the spot by over 100 sculptors and workers from Chennai with 12 tons of steel, five tons of plaster of Paris and other material at a cost of Rs. 20 lakhs and will weigh 17 tons. It is going to be ready for coloring in the last week of August and the Samithi is using water colors which are organic. The Ganesh idol is accompanied by Aadi Shakti and Lord Shiva.

With the use of computers and internet the festival is also being celebrated by sending Ganesh Chaturthi greetings, messages, SMS, cards, food specialities etc.
