H1B Visa Filing Opens

The United States of America Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has began accepting H-1B VISA petitions for non immigrant categories for the fiscal year (FY) 2011 from April 1, 2010. The limit to the total number of petitions that will be accepted in this year is 65000. As you know this category of Visa is for specialty occupation.

Also, this cap for the first 20000 petitions is not applicable for those individuals who obtained a US Masters Degree or higher educational qualification.

As you all know IT professionals from India form a major chunk of this cap every year, but due to the recession last year this cap was not fully utilized, generally this cap gets filled immediately the date from when USCIS accepts the petitions. Many Software and IT companies also have not filed petitions for their employees in the last year. Let us see how soon this cap will be filled this time.
